Mélanie Léonard, born in Montréal and raised in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (Qc), was the Music Director of the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra (2016-2022) and is currently Music Director with Symphony New Brunswick.

Maestro Léonard is Assistant Professor of instrumental conducting-contemporary music at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in Montreal.

Prior to her appointment in Sudbury, she held the positions of resident conductor (2009-2012) and associate conductor (2012-2013) with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2023-2024, she is making her debut with the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra and is reinvented by the Saskatoon Symphony and Orchestre Métropolitain.​
